Renton Eye Doctor

Any reputable Renton eye doctor will perform a comprehensive eye exam as part of your initial visit. A complete eye exam tests your vision and allows the optometrist to evaluate the health of your eyes. For some people, eye exams—like other medical exams—can put them on edge so it’s helpful to know what to expect when you visit a Renton eye doctor.

What an Exam with a Renton Eye Doctor Entails
We’re all familiar with the traditional eye chart, but it’s interesting to note that a skilled optometrist doesn’t even need you to tell him what you see in order to ascertain your vision abilities. The retinoscopy test, performed early in the examination, gives the doctor a fairly accurate idea of your prescription, before you have even spoken a word. The eye doctor will have you focus on something and then shines a light at your eyes. Based on the light’s reflection, the doctor can estimate your prescription. You can imagine this is a particularly helpful test when dealing with small children who may not yet recognize numbers and letters.

The refraction portion of the eye exam allows the optometrist to fine-tune your prescription into a very accurate range. The eye doctor will have you view an eye chart through a phoropter; he or she will then have show you the chart through a variety of lens options, and have you vocalize which lens option looks clearer to you. The refraction section of the exam measures levels of nearsightedness, farsightedness, presbyopia and astigmatism.

Your Renton eye doctor will also conduct a series of tests in which he or she observes the ocular structure to ensure everything is in working order and no diseases or disorders are apparent.
