The eye doctor will have you view an eye chart through a phoropter; he or she will then have show you the chart through a variety of lens options, and have you vocalize which lens option looks clearer to you. The refraction section of the exam measures levels of nearsightedness, farsightedness, presbyopia and astigmatism.
